Are you planning to invest in biomass energy?
Renewables in Africa can tell you how.
Renewables in Africa was set up as an online platform where individuals could learn about the importance of green energy. Our founder, Tony Tiyou, has learnt that many are interested in renewable energy, but are unsure about what it really means. Therefore when you visit our website, you will be able to learn all about it, and you will also be able to read about upcoming events and see a gallery of our past events.
If you are looking to invest in biomass energy Renewables in Africa can give you a beginners guide:
What is biomass energy?
Biomass energy is an organic material that comes from plants and animals. It is a renewable source of energy. Biomass contains stored energy from the sun. This works in the following manner: plants absorb the sun’s energy in a process known as photosynthesis. Therefore when biomass is burned, the chemical energy that is released comes out as heat.
What are some examples of biomass energy?
- Wood
- Burned to heat buildings
- Produce process heat in industry
- Generate electricity
- Agricultural crops & waste
- This is burned as fuel
- It can also be converted to liquid biofuels
- Food, yard, wood waste in garbage
- This is burned to create electricity in power plans
- Can also be converted to biogas in landfills
- Animal manure and human sewage
- This is converted to biogas, therefore this in turn can be burned as fuel
As can be seen, biomass energy exists in many different formats and is a renewable energy that is worth investing in.
Why invest in biomass energy?
There is a pressing need in Africa to invest in the power industry available. A thriving renewable energy industry is a key part of the solution to a low carbon economy and secure energy supplies. Therefore biomass is a reliable way to generate electricity and to deliver predictable recurring income to its operators.
Currently, energy in Africa is produced mainly from biomass, a whopping 47%. In 2015, Africa welcomed the largest biomass power generation plant to be hooked into the national grid. Therefore a generator like this has been proven to not only be able to produce a large amount of energy, but it also provide reliable energy.
Therefore reliable energy is something Africa could greatly benefit from.
